I was really excited before my first appointment, knowing that choosing my wedding dress was one of the most important things I’d ever do. This was my first appointment for trying to find my perfect gown, I’d heard amazing things about Y.A.P having been told about the boutique by a friend who also bought her dress there a few years previously. I organised my appointment with my best friend who was getting married the same month as me, we were maids of honour for each other. Having the appointments alongside each other made the prospect of dress shopping even more wonderful – I really couldn’t wait.
On my first visit to the boutique I was blown away, everything was so pretty and the girls were extremely welcoming. The dresses on show were beautiful; I had a feeling I was going to find my dream dress at Y.A.P. I went for my first appointment with my Mam, bridesmaids, maid of honour and her Mam (since we’d both be trying on dresses); everyone was made to feel at home and relaxed. I loved the story behind the boutique, it made it so unique.
I have quite a quirky style so wanted something traditional, but that still had a twist to it. I knew I wanted lace, probably sleeves and something with a pretty back. I also wanted some detail and bits of sparkle but wasn’t sure how much. I loved Mori Lee gowns, I didn’t think that I had the right shape for some of the Maggie dresses. In my mind, I thought I would suit an A-line dress, I never expected to end up with a stunning sheath dress with a plunging back. I had spotted a stunning gown on one of the mannequins in the window during my first visit; that ended up being my dress.
My consultation was brilliant, not only did it allow me to share what I wanted in a dress but really made me think about how I wanted to feel during my special day. It also allowed Heather to help me choose a dress that would fit in with the overall theme/venue of our wedding.
Everyone at Y.A.P. are beautiful people inside and out. Heather was fantastic as my bridal stylist; she really took on board what I wanted during the consultation and picked out some beautiful dresses for me to try. She was honest in her opinions and shared in the emotions of the group; Heather kept everyone relaxed. Returning for my fittings, Danni always greeted me like a long lost friend and it didn’t matter how busy the boutique was, I always felt like I was so important. Anne really worked her magic on my gown, I didn’t think it could be made any better but after she nipped it in and made it fit like a glove; I couldn’t believe it was me. Anne was extremely professional and following my ‘final fitting,’ she then decided to adjust my dress further, I knew I was in safe hands. Jo is amazing; she came to dress me on my wedding day. She helped my bridesmaids and Mam get ready before dressing me. Even though my gown was a simple zip and buttons, just having her there helped everyone relax and she made sure everything stayed on track. I loved being revealed to my bridal party, it was such a magical moment. Having Jo there as I was about to walk down the aisle made me fill with tears of joy, a beautiful ending to my Y.A.P journey. She is a true treasure.
I was speechless and felt beautiful but still me. ‘The One’ was actually the very first dress that I tried on, the one I’d spotted on the mannequin. My Mam cried and my bridesmaids loved it. With it being the first gown I tried, I wanted to make doubly sure it was the one for me so I arranged for another appointment a couple of weeks later. During that couple of weeks, all I could think about was that beautiful dress and I dreamt about walking down the aisle in it. Attending my second appointment, I tried on my dress and another stunning Maggie Sottero just to make sure - I knew then I’d found ‘the one,’ I couldn’t stop smiling.
I loved the whole process, from my very first consultation through to being dressed on my wedding day. It is the team that make Y.A.P Bridal Boutique such a beautiful place to visit and I was always so excited to attend fittings. Nothing was ever too much trouble and everyone always took their time to ask about everything wedding related. I’m sad that my Y.A.P bridal journey is over but the fabulous boutique has given me amazing memories to last a lifetime.

• ACCESSORIES •
I originally didn’t want a veil but as soon as Heather put one in my hair during my first appointment I knew I wanted it-a beautiful floor length veil that complimented my gown; all of the amazing back detail could be still be seen through. My hairpiece also came from Y.A.P; it matched the vintage style and beading on my dress perfectly. My shoes were a bargain in a Debenhams sale-I wanted flat shoes even though I’m only 5 foot 2 as I hate wearing heels and wanted to feel comfortable on my wedding day. I found pretty Jenny Peckham flats which were exactly what I was after. My earrings were also from Debenhams and my bracelet was my something borrowed from my Mam. I wanted to keep my jewellery very simple as my dress was so detailed.
• FEELINGS •
It’s difficult to put into words how I felt in my gown on my wedding day. I felt like an absolute princess and I really couldn’t believe it was me. I felt so pretty, confident and couldn’t stop smiling. My favourite part of our special day was when Alistair saw me for the first time in my beautiful gown and our eyes met; it was such an amazing connection, magical. All of our guests commented on my dress and how perfect it was. I wish I could wear it again!
• VENUE •
Our wedding was at Macdonald Linden Hall in Northumberland (near Morpeth). The venue was just stunning and provided a beautiful backdrop for our photographs. We wanted a formal yet relaxed day and Linden Hall allowed us to have that. The rooms looked amazing and we were blessed with perfect weather. The staff were all fantastic and added extra details which helped make our day even more special.
• DETAILS •
Alistair and I met through an orchestra; we’re both musicians and knew that music would play a big part in our day. We had live Music for our ceremony, reception drinks and wedding breakfast; a music inspired cake; cake toppers of us playing our instruments; wedding stationary designed and made by us with music on, our table names were all composers and even our guest book had music symbols on it. We displayed our table plan on an ornate wooden music stand. In terms of colour, I love vibrant colours so we went for red. Bridesmaids wore red dresses, the men in our bridal party had red ties, our table decorations and organza bows were red and my bouquet was red. Everything came together so well.

Robert Usher Photography – a fantastic husband and wife team, they worked so well together and helped everyone feel relaxed. I love the natural photos they captured and how they allowed us to enjoy time with our guests rather than having to spend hours posing. Bob and Jo Usher are extremely experienced and this shows in the amazing photographs they took – lots of fun ones in beautiful locations. Everyone looks so happy in them.
V.I.P. For All your Special Occasions – Vera dressed our rooms and provided our flowers. She listened to everything we wanted and the rooms surpassed our expectations. The table centres suited our quirky style and the red and ivory colours complimented each other perfectly. We used a starlit curtain from Vera to add extra sparkle and her professionalism and kind heartedness shone through.
Maximillion Hair and Make-up-Maxine did the hair and make-up of myself, my three bridesmaids and my Mam. She made me feel a million dollars, the soft up do and natural make-up really complimented my beautiful gown. Maxine was a hugely calming influence and very talented in her work.
Mardi Gras Catering (based in South Shields) made our amazing cake. Adele listened to what we wanted, providing helpful suggestions and transforming our ideas into reality. Our cake was really a centrepiece of the room and tasted amazing.
Julie Patchouli Cake toppers – Our cake topper was out of this world. Julie was easy to contact and used all the information and photographs we sent her to create an amazing, bespoke topper. It featured us playing our instruments and a music stand. The detail on my dress was outstanding and our guests could tell it was us.
Prince Bishop’s Brass – a brass quintet that played for our ceremony and reception drinks. They helped add special memories to our ceremony, walking down the aisle to a live version of Pachabel’s Canon was magical. They then helped our guests relax and provided lovely background music.
Andrea DeVere – our Saxophone player that performed background music for our wedding breakfast. Andrea was extremely friendly and helped create a warm and relaxing atmosphere for our guests to enjoy.
Stag Designs – a graphic design company that we got our personalised wooden guestbook from as we couldn’t find an ordinary one that was music related – a gorgeous keepsake.
