I had had a couple of appointments at other dress shops and felt like none of the people had really understood what kind of thing I was looking for or what would suit me. So I felt excited to go to Y.A.P and see what they had to offer, hoping that one of their gowns would be the one!
Such a beautifully laid out space (and that was before they moved into their gorgeous new boutique!) It was organised, clean and everyone was friendly. I was immediately comfortable.
I knew I wanted something elegant and not too fussy. I liked lace but I didn't want a lot of it. And I needed a balance of not looking too short - to stand next to my husband Matt who is 6ft6” - and not looking too tall -to walk down the aisle with my Dad who is 5ft tall.
Danni was my bridal stylist. She is amazing. From the initial consultation and appointment I felt like we had been friends forever. She is so easy to chat to and clearly loves her job which makes it easy to trust her to help you find your gown! One thing that stands out to me was in my initial consultation, Danni asked “How do you want to feel in your dress?” I think that this is key because everyone has their hang ups and things that they like about their body and things they don’t. But what is important is how YOU feel in your dress on your wedding day. Another thing which made all the difference was that despite most of the gowns that I tried on not being the right size, Danni always made the effort to ‘fit’ the dresses to me so that I could get the best idea of how they would look in the right size so and really see what the dress was like instead of having to imagine it! Danni and the whole Y.A.P team are one of the main reasons that I picked my gown from You Are Precious - after my initial appointment (and of course the gown!) There is no point having beautiful dresses and a lovely boutique if you don't make brides feel amazing about themselves and fully supported from the minute they walk in. I trusted them and they made me feel ‘precious’, so I came back to get my gown from here!
In other dress shops they had just let us loose on the dresses straight away, but in Y.A.P. your consultation to start with was ideal. It meant that I could think more about what I wanted and then Danni was more able to pick out dress options which were suited to my style and ideal spend. Instead of trying on 10 dresses that were randomly picked out, I tried 4, two of which immediately stood out.
After my initial appointment I had two dresses that I really loved. One was very vintage and I knew it was a gorgeous, different, show stopping dress. But the other was an amazing shape for me, it was subtle but beautiful and it made me feel so confident and not at all worried about what I looked like from all angles! Whereas the first dress was wearing me, in the second, I was wearing the dress! (Does that make sense?!) In the end, I just couldn't stop thinking about it and looking at the tiny picture from the website of it on my phone! I knew it was The One!
From the minute I walked into Y.A.P Bridal Boutique, I knew I wanted this to be where my gown would come from. Joanne and the team have got it completely right with the decor, the layout and the atmosphere that they create. Customer service is second to none and they were all committed to making me feel and look my best on my wedding day. They are honest, they are enthusiastic and interested in more than just selling you a gown, they want to know about you too. When you are a Y.A.P. bride, you are part of their family. I found the perfect gown with them; I’m only sad I can’t wear it more often!

• FEELINGS •
Effortlessly elegant! I felt beautiful, well proportioned, totally confident and most of all I felt like me - but the best, most elegant and beautiful version of myself!
• VENUE •
Jesmond Parish Church and Kirkley Hall!
As it was a winter wedding, we had no idea what the weather would do or how cold it would be. So we planned the day accordingly with lots of food and drink to keep people comfortable, a cosy tipi with a fire pit and firs to snuggle up in and a cocoa bar and marshmallows to warm people up if they got cold. Essentially, we didn't want the cold to stop people having a great time!
• DETAILS •
There was a lot of navy blue - suits and bridesmaid dresses! My lovely sister (and maid of honour) was in blush pink and the boys wore tweed waistcoats.
With regard to the venue, we decided to mix rustic winter and African prints (my background) and worked with gold, blush and browns (wood, seed pods, pine cones, etc) And of course, loads of candles! Our flowers were gorgeous; winter white roses, ice blue eucalyptus and blush pink berries.

Kirkley Hall was incredible. They managed the whole day and were indefinitely flexible around our plans. The menu we created was prepared and executed to such a high quality, people are still talking about the food!
We hired a tipi from Tina at The Unique Tent Company. Tina was so fun and helpful and even came in person to oversee the fire pit and the Tipi on the day of our wedding! Everyone loved the tipi - at one point it was ‘one in one out’ because it was so popular!
Ross and Laura from Snaparazzi and Coco Luminaire provided our guests with hours of fun in the Photo Booth and the M & H lights were so gorgeous and added to the warm and magical atmosphere we wanted to create.
Bernadett at DreamWorld Cakes created a beautiful cake for us. The flavours were out of this world and it looked perfect on the wooden cake stand that we had borrowed from a friend!
Jenna and Ewan from Jenna Woodward Photography were wonderful too! We met with them in November for an engagement shoot so we could get used to how they work and comfortable with them point cameras at us! Then on the day they split up to follow one of us each getting ready and then made themselves discreet at the reception getting some hilarious and gorgeous candid shots of our guests, the speeches and the venue. We are so thrilled with the photos they took. They also made us a short video of the day with a specially composed song over the top which has been so special to watch again and again and to show people who couldn't be with us on the day. I can’t recommend them enough.
Lily Starbrights Florist, owned and run by Jan Gray is one of my favourite places in Gateshead. Jan is so intuitive and creative and worked tirelessly with me to create the arrangements and the colour combinations we were after. There is no flower in the world that Jan can’t get ahold of for you and the arrangements she did for our wedding day were perfect.
We stayed at The Grange B&B on the Blagdon Estate for our wedding night. Paul and Penny have a beautiful house and have finished it to such a high standard. It was great to get to know them a bit and to have a lovely out-of-the-way place to stay for a couple of days after the madness of the wedding!
Mark at J&M Travel supplied a bus and a minivan to transport various guests and members of the wedding party around on the day. They were great. Safe drivers, value for money and always on time!
Beware the Bear played in the evening at our reception. They are a lively band who know how to party and were keen to try out new things to fit what vibe we wanted. They did some classics and some chart hits as well as giving us some jazzy, old school mixes that we love too! Definitely a good choice if you want everyone up dancing - a great party
Massive thanks to our wonderful bride Hannah for sharing her amazinggbridal journey with us all... photo credits to Jenna Woodward Photography for such Gorgeous images!xxx
