Nervous! I was unhappy with my weight at the time and felt like no Bridal Boutique would have anything I liked in a size I’d be able to try on. I’d convinced myself it would be an uncomfortable experience and had just about talked myself into ordering a dress off the Internet when I finally let my best friend talk me into making an appointment at Y.A.P.
My first appointment was at the original boutique and I just remember feeling this sense of relief as soon as I walked in. The boutique was absolutely gorgeous and the dresses in the window and on display were just beautiful. The interior was so elegant: I knew from that first moment that I wanted to be a Y.A.P bride.
I didn’t have an exact style in mind but, as we were having a destination wedding in the Italian Lakes, I knew I wanted something floaty and summery which would go with our casual theme. I also wanted it to have a full back and sleeves…. oh, and the ‘wow’ factor!
Danni really knows her stuff: the dress she suggested after the consultation was the first one I tried on and nothing else really matched up to it after that! She really listened to what I said and was careful not to show me dresses out of my budget. Any thoughts I’d had about feeling self conscious and uncomfortable went out the window: I loved every minute.
The lovely Danni put me at ease from the moment I walked into the boutique. She really took the time to talk to me about what kind of wedding we were having and how I wanted to look and feel on the big day. After the consultation, Danni said to me ‘I have the perfect dress in mind for you’ …. She was absolutely right, that was the dress I ended up buying.
There wasn’t any tears or shrieks of joy but I knew I’d found ‘the one’ when I didn’t want to take it off! The dress was actually strapless originally but Danni used her background in fashion to help me visualise how it could be transformed into my perfect dress with a covered back and sleeves like I wanted and I loved the idea that I would end up with a gown that was totally unique to me. That’s where the seamstress, Anne, came in: she really worked her magic and helped turn an already gorgeous Diane Harbridge dress into my dream gown.
Every single part of my Y.A.P experience was incredible: the old boutique was beautiful but the new boutique is absolutely breath taking: the team are amazing and the dresses and accessories are just stunning. I wish I could do it all over again!
• ACCESSORIES •
I chose not to have a veil and instead bought a beautiful Yarwood-White hair vine, which Danni picked out for me. If only choosing shoes had been that easy….I bought 3 pairs in total as I kept changing my mind but in the end I wore a glittery, champagne coloured pair from Dune.
• FEELINGS •
I felt like a million dollars in my gown and received so many compliments. It went perfectly with the location and theme of the day.
• VENUE •
We had a destination wedding on Lake Orta in Northern Italy, which is said to be the most romantic of all the Italian Lakes…think picturesque buildings, cobbled streets, mountains and incredible views! It was the perfect setting for the laid back, relaxed, Italian wedding of our dreams.
• DETAILS •
We wanted the lake to take centre stage so chose a muted colour palette of blush, champagne, light gold and natural greenery. My 7 bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses of their choice in shades of blush and champagne while the men wore navy designer suits with tan shoes – no ties.
Our day was incredibly relaxed with lots of prosecco, great Italian food and a fantastic live band called Fifth Avenue providing the evening entertainment. The focus was definitely more on having fun with the 60-plus guests who came out to Italy to celebrate with us rather than on tradition and formality. It really was the perfect day.
• SUPPLIERS •
Valentina and Ernesto from The Italian Wedding Company were our wedding planners. They went above and beyond to create the wedding of our dreams and helped make the planning an exciting, stress-free, experience – we honestly couldn’t have done it without them!
Our outdoor ceremony, conducted in Italian by the local Mayoress, was held in the pretty gardens of Villa Bossi: the town hall of Orta San Giulio. Our reception was held at L’Ustaria Ca Del Rat: a rustic, lakeside restaurant.
Our photographers, Andrea and Francesco from Independent Pictures were incredible. They really captured the essence of the day and the photographs are stunning.
Riccardo Lavezzo was our videographer and we are very excited about receiving the finished video very soon.
We chose silk flowers from Prestige Flowers and Co based in Melbourne, Australia for the bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. The olive branch name cards and olive tree centrepieces from La Piccola Selva Floral Design really gave our reception a natural, Mediterranean feel.
We absolutely loved reading all about your beautiful bridal journey Selina... Thank you so much for sharing with our gorgeous brides to be! Lots of Love xxx
