I was very excited for my appointment at Y.A.P Bridal Boutique. Apart from great recommendations from work colleagues I had also researched the bridal designers available at the boutique and had a massive list of gowns I was interested to try on.
I instantly loved everything! The boutique has such a high standard compared to previous experiences. Everything is gorgeous, incredibly classy and romantic. I immediately felt it’d be the perfect setting for such an important wedding planning decision.
From the day we booked our venue I imagined myself getting married in a fitted, vintage, lace dress. I was however, open minded to try other style options.
I felt the questions my stylist Louise asked were so useful and the information I provided was treated in a very professional yet friendly manner. I definitely felt like I was in really good hands! This was evident when Louise took us into the main boutique that houses their gowns and swiftly selected the most exquisite dresses, literally hand picked for me. I loved all of them and her knowledge was so valuable, I would have been completely lost without her advice and help in selecting the right gowns.
I first visited the boutique with 2 of my best friends. As it was near Valentine’s Day we were offered prosecco and chocolates, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable! After my first appointment with Louise I had a dress in mind however I needed my mother’s opinion before committing to it. On my second appointment Danni (she was just lovely!) helped me with trying on my 3 favourite dresses. During all my visits I felt as if we had all known each other for years and it really made a difference to work with these ladies - who obviously understand the importance of the day and of choosing the perfect dress that makes you feel at your best. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and if there is a word that describes how I felt at Y.A.P then 'Precious' would definitely be it!
It was definitely an emotional moment! I had tried on a few gowns at previous boutiques and even though I liked them, I couldn't decide if they were the right ones. I had in my mind a lace dress, and it was hard to shake that off, but I just felt that incredible in my embellished Rosa Clará dress - which matched my personality perfectly. It’s something you feel and a choice that needs to be made with your heart. As soon as I put that dress on, tears started rolling down my face, I didn’t want to take it off for anything in this world and I felt so emotional and so beautiful - it had to be a sign that I had found The One!
I’ll never forget my experience at Y.A.P. due to both Louise and Danni who helped me choosing my wedding dress (and a beautiful veil when I thought I wouldn’t suit one) but also thanks to Heather who has the kindest smile in the world or the talented Anne who expertly tailored my dress so it fitted perfectly. All my visits to the boutique were amazing and these ladies really made me feel so welcome. I knew exactly when my dress was due to arrive, I received a personal message on the day it arrived to the boutique, all the fitting appointments were booked and they kindly kept my dress and steamed it ready to be picked up on the day before the wedding. It was so reassuring to know exactly what was happening and that really helped to eliminate any stress associated with the whole process. I feel very lucky to be able to say that the experience of choosing my wedding dress was one of the most enjoyable in my life.

• ACCESSORIES •
The super experienced bridal stylists at Y.A.P helped me to choose the perfect veil for my dress. I wore my veil right up to until the wedding breakfast and then switched to a few fresh flowers my florist had prepared for me. I wanted quite a dramatic look so even though my dress was heavily embellished I opted for these beautiful vintage long earrings I found in an Etsy shop called Ambrosia Bridal. In order to keep with the vintage feel of the wedding I wore open toed Charlotte Mills shoes (Style :: Betty) which were perfect for the dress with champagne glitter and an ivory leather t-bar. The six pence on the blue lining and the engraved sole was an added bonus and just too pretty!
• FEELINGS •
I had never felt so beautiful and I was very confident when I walked down the aisle to meet James. He couldn’t stop saying how beautiful I was and this meant the world to me.
• VENUE •
We had our wedding at Eshott Hall and since we both share a love for cinema and Jazz we wanted a very elegant and sophisticated day but with a vintage, timeless feel.
• DETAILS •
Since the wedding was at the end of October and to tie in with the elegant/vintage themed inspiration, we opted for deep burgundy and soft blush tones throughout our day.

I wanted everything to look very beautiful and classy and Vicky at Floral Quarter really helped us to capture this with the flower arrangementsthat she created for our day. Vicky was extremely professional and captured our vision perfectly so I can’t recommend her highly enough.
Our cake, and desserts table, were created by Dawn of The Master Cake Smith who worked tirelessly to deliver the most beautiful cake and desserts both us and our guests had ever tasted.
One of the most important decisions during wedding planning was the choice of a photographer who could capture all the beautiful details I had worked so hard to arrange but also could transmit the vintage vibe of the day on their photos. I would choose Katy Melling Photography a million times if I had to. I cannot describe how talented and professional she is and how she managed to capture the emotion and happiness of the day. Due to the care and consistency of her editing and amazing vision we ended up with the most beautiful and romantic wedding photos which I’m sure we’ll treasure forever.
My friend Katy did my make-up and my trusted hairdresser John (at David Harvey) travelled to the venue and did an incredible job - not only with my hair but also my family and close friends.
My grandmother hand embroidered more than 30 handkerchiefs with traditional Portuguese motifs to be distributed during the ceremony, we had silver initials/monogram printed cocktail napkins for the reception and books, antiques, lots of candles and flowers to decorate each table with and throughout the venue. I decided to design our own invites, menus, thank you cards and every single piece of stationery since I really wanted a solid theme.
It was also very important that our guests felt relaxed so we can’t also praise enough our wedding coordinators at Eshott Hall and the entertainment provided by the pianist at Music Newcastle during the ceremony and then by Vieux Carre Jazzmen and The Moonbooth in the evening.
Such an inspiring and romantic journey that we adored being a part of with Vera - thank you so much for allowing us to be with you every step of the way - we adore these images Katy Melling Photography xxx
