Josh and I share the same hometown in Northumberland. We had a lot of mutual friends but our paths never really crossed until around 8 years ago in our local pub. After 3 or 4 coincidental meetings and several drinks over the next few weeks, we agreed to go on a date. The rest, as they say, is history!
I was so excited and also really nervous. I think it’s the day most girls dream of and I was scared I wasn’t going to find “The One”. Y.A.P Bridal was the second bridal shop I had visited on my first day of looking. As soon as I walked through the door, I knew I was going to find my dress there.
I had always wanted a 'floaty' A line gown but was trying to keep an open mind going into my appointment. I was convinced I had found the one on Y.A.P’s Instagram a few weeks before (I followed them before I was even engaged!) and that was the main reason for booking my appointment. This was not the dress I went on to buy….
My first appointment was with Ruth. She sat me down and asked me all about how I wanted to feel on my wedding day. (I believe my response was “Nothing too tight so I can enjoy my Pizza van!) Ruth was amazing, bringing different options for me and making me feel a million dollars. Waiting patiently as I tried and re-tried dresses to be sure. The day I collected my dress was the day before Lockdown, March 2020. This appointment was with Brogan who again, made me feel so at ease and so beautiful in my Y.AP gown.
As I said earlier, I went to Y.A.P thinking I’d already found the dress I would be buying. I tried this on first and it was amazing, a beautiful embellished A-line gown. I decided to try on others, as I was scared to get the first dress that I’d tried on. As soon as I tried on my “McKenna” by Rebecca Ingram I suddenly felt the feeling I knew I was supposed to feel. Ruth got me a plain cathedral veil to try and I knew that was 'My Precious One'.
I felt absolutely amazing walking down the aisle in my dress. It filled me with so much confidence and fit just perfectly. The tulle skirt made me feel like I was floating and I was so excited to show Josh as I’d picked the dress up over 14 months before I was able to finally wear it.
Personal, Magical & Relaxed!
I think for us personally, we really enjoyed a smaller wedding. We both felt more relaxed and able to enjoy ourselves rather than being full of nerves and feeling like we had to spend our day splitting our time between 100 + guests. Our day was spent making memories with our nearest and dearest.

We got married at St Lawrence’s Church in Warkworth, a church I had driven past every day as a child on the way to school and now drive past daily to work. Our reception was in the garden of a family member. The garden was so private beautiful filled with flowers. We had a couple of small marquees filled with Ivy and Fairylights with a bar built for us by my step-dad. The trees with filled with paper lanterns and we has small storm jars scattered around filled with lights that looked so gorgeous once the sun went down.
Tell us about your chosen suppliers and how they made your day perfect …
Our photographer was the marvellous Vicky from Victoria Sponge Photography (@victoriaspongephotography) Vicky amazing throughout the day. I had no idea she was there during the ceremony and yet she perfectly captured every angle. We laughed all afternoon and she got Josh to smile for photographs, which is a task in itself!
Our cake was made by The Farm Bakery in Alnwick (@thefarmbakeryshops) We had a two tier cake with white icing and gold leaf. We each picked a flavour. Josh’s tier was Chocolate and mine Lemon drizzle!
The day time food was supplied by Richard Sim of The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh (@thepottedlobster), a family friend and the most amazing chef. We enjoyed a beautiful summer buffet.
In the evening we had Pete bring his new Pizza van onto the drive. (@petepetetwofeet) We enjoyed the most amazingly fresh woodfired pizzas including pepperoni, ham and mushroom, garlic chicken and harissa lamb!
Beau Monde, Lucker did everyone’s hair. (@beaumonde_salonspa) We had such a fabulous morning with Aimee and Sophie. They were so lovely and we had such a laugh. Everyone’s Hair looked stunning and all of the girls went for something slightly different.
Joanna Phillips did our makeup (@beau_byjoannaphillips) Joanna made everyone feel a million dollars. She asked everyone their personal makeup style and really tailored each look to each bridesmaid’s personal preference.
My Flowers were done by a close friend as a wedding gift and were honestly so perfect.
Tell us about your perfect accessories …
I definitely went for the less is more approach. I got my beautiful veil from Y.A.P. It was very plain and cathedral length. I thought that this, partnered with my dress and my hair left down in waves was enough. When we were back in the garden partying, I took my veil off and had a simple embellished hair band from Beau Monde in Lucker.
If you could give one piece of advice for future Y.A.P brides about to embark on their bridal journey, what would it be?
My advice would absolutely be to try not to stress about small details. At the beginning of 2020 I was panicking about things that could potentially go wrong, spending money on extras that I wasn’t sure I needed. The pandemic really put things into perspective for me. After rearranging our wedding for a third time I was just delighted it was finally going ahead, even if it was with just 30 people. Our day was everything I never knew I always wanted. It was simple, fun and relaxed and we were surrounded by the people we love the most. Love Always Wins!
Jen thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous day with us, we are so over the moon for you and Josh that you FINALLY got to tie the knot in such a beautiful way, there is no time limit on love. We wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness.
Forever a part of the You Are Precious family. xoxo
