Our Brides
Katherine and Nick
Tell us how you and your partner met. Your ‘love story’…
Our love story began almost nine years ago on a beautiful island in Greece. A whirlwind holiday romance became a long-distance relationship, with Nick away at university, and me working up in Newcastle. We would travel by bus or train for hours on end (even through the night!) to see each other, and after a year together Nick made the big move up to live in Newcastle! We spent many happy years from there building our life together in Newcastle… buying our first home and enjoying our mutual love for travel on some amazing holidays!
To celebrate 5 years together, Nick and I organised a dream holiday to Santorini and the Amalfi coast – we booked a breath taking cliffside apartment with sunset views over the Caldera to kick off our summer trip abroad. On the second day, after a relaxed morning in the sun, Nick spontaneously announced that we were “going on a trip” that he’d organised – this was totally unexpected, and I was only left with 30 minutes to get ready!
We headed to a marina where Nick had arranged for a private catamaran cruise for the afternoon – taking in the breath-taking views over Santorini, snorkelling in the beautiful, warm waters and enjoying a spectacular BBQ on board. After an unforgettable trip, we started to head back to shore, and just as the captain turned the boat around to reveal the angelic sun setting before our eyes. Nick was down on one knee with the most dazzling ring I had ever seen, asking me to marry him and of course I said yes!
After a two year engagement, with many celebratory glasses of fizz, we tied the knot on the 18th May 2019 at the stunning Newton Hall.
How did you feel before your first appointment to try on gowns?
I was soooo excited! Since I was a little girl, I dreamed about the day I would try on wedding dresses! I was so inspired by the range of silhouettes, laces and colours out there, that I couldn’t wait to start trying them all on! There’s something about those really modern laces and designs that just excites me.
Did you have in mind the style and look you wanted from your gown? If so what was it?
I wanted to keep an open mind when trying on wedding dresses, there’s so much out there I didn’t want to close myself off from anything I might actually love once I had them on. I knew that I loved the look of ‘floaty’ dresses with the feeling of being soft and romantic but also being comfortable, so I had that in mind when trying on dresses.
Tell us about the ‘You Are Precious’ service you received along your bridal journey
The level of service at Y.A.P is spectacular. You walk through the front door and feel like you’re seeing your best friends for a girly catch up. Everyone there makes you feel so welcome and ease any nerves you may have when entering the building. We started our appointment by having a little chat about my bridal journey so far, and if I had my eye on any styles already. Heather was an amazing bridal stylist, and I can’t thank her enough for helping me find my ‘precious one’. She is someone I will really look up too now I have joined the Y.A.P girl gang.
How did you feel when you found your dream gown & how did you know it was ‘The One’?
For me, it wasn’t all tears when I found the one… I just knew that this dress felt right and that I could totally picture myself at the top of the aisle in Newton Hall, ready to walk down and feel as confident as I could be. I knew I genuinely felt amazing in my dress and I couldn’t wait to show it to everyone.
What three words would you use to describe your Y.A.P experience?
Effortless, magical and fun! – but there is so many more words I could use!
Tell us how you felt in your precious gown walking down your aisle?
I felt really relaxed and excited to show off my dress to my family.
