Our Brides
Kim and Mickey
Tell us how you and your partner met. Your ‘love story’…
Me and Mickey met online completely by chance that he was in the area as he worked away as a diver. We spoke for around 7 weeks before finally arranging a date when he was home. We went out for food, as I’m not the most lady like I was eating slightly uncouth and Mickey decided to ask me if I needed a trough with my meal, to which I just replied yes and carried on scoffing my face. I think then we both knew then we were going to get on fine. Fast forward to 17 months later on our first family holiday Mickey asked my daughters permission to ask me to marry him on our last night in a lovely surrounding. It was incredibly sweet and I obviously said YES!
Tell us how you felt before your first appointment to try on gowns..
Nervous yet excited. One of my best friends had recommended YAP to me as Joanne is a close family friend of hers. I had already been to 2 other bridal stores to no avail and right before my appointment at YAP I was at another bridal store so felt slightly deflated.
On arriving at Y.A.P Bridal Boutique what were your initial thoughts?
It was cosy but elegant. An immense family feel as soon as you walked in. The girls were incredibly friendly and helpful and you could tell they knew what they were talking about.
Did you have in mind the style and look you wanted from your gown? If so what was it?
I knew in my head what I wanted in a dress but began to think it didn’t exist after already trying on 10+ dresses! I knew I wanted lace, A-line style and no straps which sounds like it would be incredibly simple to find!
How did your consultation during your appointment help to find the perfect dress for you?
I looked through the racks myself and selected 2-3 dresses I thought looked nice and to my style. I then had a dress chosen for me by Heather going off what features I wanted in a dress. In all honesty that dress didn’t look much at first glance but I knew I’d try anything on just in case as I felt I trusted Heathers expertise.
Tell us about your bridal stylist and the ‘You Are Precious’ service you received…
Heather was my bridal stylist and she was just lovely, Very helpful and honest which is exactly what I wanted. Heather recommended things that I probably wouldn’t have considered and helped me to style my dress with a veil and belt that suited just perfect! Heather made me feel incredibly welcome and part of the YAP family from the get go and it was a lovely feeling.
How did you feel when you found your dream gown & how did you know it was ‘The One’?
My dream gown was the last gown I tried on at YAP and the dress Heather had actually picked for me. Before trying it on I felt it was a lost cause but as soon as it was on and I walked out to the larger mirror I felt the biggest lump in my throat! I just knew that was my dress and it felt amazing, I felt amazing in it and I started to cry uncontrollably! It was exactly what I was looking for and even more! I loved how it had the fitted fabric underneath and then the A line lace draped over the top giving a kind of 2 in 1 style and feel. I felt so feminine but not too over the top!
Tell us about your overall Y.A.P Bridal Journey…
I would recommend Jo and the team to absolutely everyone I come into contact with. There is so much meaning and reason behind YAP which makes it feel so much more special than other bridal boutiques. To add to that they go above and beyond to help and please you and they are all fantastic in what they do! The boutique itself is beautiful and full of sentiment, so elegantly lay out yet cosy and gives a homely feel. Finding a huge part of your love story in a place where love is the basis for everything is so empowering and knowing how much it means to all of the staff there adds that little extra special meaning to your day.
Tell us about the perfect accessories..
I had beautiful grey satin Jenny Packham open toe heels encrusted with gems/jewels. My veil was a shorter veil but had beautiful sparkle throughout which helped compliment my belt which also added some sparkle to the day!
Where was your wedding held and what kind of day did you want?
We had a church service followed by our reception at Beamish Hall. We wanted a day where we could just enjoy ourselves with all of our nearest and dearest there. We laughed from start to finish and I think that’s reflected in the photos as we are both pretty goofy in the sense that we don’t take life too seriously! We wanted photos which were relaxed and captured us all in the moment and also a few of the more formal style photos with our parents and bridal party and groomsmen.
What colour scheme/ theme did you choose for your big day?
The theme we had was Scottish with Mickey being born in Scotland and sporting a kilt in his family clan Ferguson Tartan. The Bridesmaids were in Navy which suited the time of year and paired lovely with the greens and blues in Mickeys Kilt. Our daughter’s flower girl dress was ivory finished with a satin tie and tartan bow made out of the same fabric that made Mickeys Kilt. In essence that day we were brought together as a family and all had some of the Ferguson tartan on/with us to symbolise that.
How did you feel in your amazing Y.A.P gown on your wedding day?
On the day of my wedding actually putting my gown on that had been altered to fit me like a dream by Anne over at Diva Designs was an amazing feeling. It fit every inch of my body perfectly and I felt absolutely amazing in it. I couldn’t wait to show it off! I also didn’t want to take it off!
Kim and Mickey’s magical snowy day at Beamish hall was absolutely picture perfect and everything they dreamt it would be. Kim Shares her bridal Journey and explains how special it was to not only find her gown at Y.A.P but to become part of the ‘family’…
