I met Steve in October 2015 after joining the University of Bath Skydiving Club. He was already a member and volunteered to drive us newbies to the dropzone for a weekend of training ahead of our first ever skydives. Steve was also jumping that weekend and just so happened to be in the plane with me for my first ever jump – I can distinctly remember him giving me a fist bump and a cheeky smile and the next thing I remember is free-falling… it sounds cringey but we’ve been falling for each other ever since!
It was a real mix of excitement and nerves. I’ve always been adventurous and tomboy-ish so dresses aren’t in my comfort zone, and I felt a little bit daunted about how to select a wedding dress – it’s not something I had ever put any thought into and I didn’t know what all the cuts and styles meant. That’s where Y.A.P. Bridal really helped me, they asked loads of questions to find out about my personality and how I wanted to feel on the day, and were able to find me the dress I was looking for before I even knew it myself!
I think you can tell from the reaction of everyone else in the room…I brought along three friends to Y.A.P. and when I tried on the dress and the curtain opened, their gasps and ‘awws’ were priceless. I knew that was the one.
It felt like a dream, like I was the luckiest girl in the world marrying my best friend and Prince Charming. Although we actually had a Viking wedding ceremony (said our vows holding an oath ring then drank champagne out of a Viking horn), so maybe it was more Game of Thrones than fairytale!
It was amazing from start to finish. All the girls were so welcoming and made me feel really comfortable. They were so attentive and I genuinely can’t think of a single improvement to offer. I don’t live in the North East anymore which could have complicated things, but the girls were great at communicating with me and then kept my dress safe and sound until I was free to collect it.
Friendly. Professional. Faultless.
Gown - Rebecca Ingram 'Breanne'
Accessories - Waterproofs! Weather is super unpredictable in Iceland so we had to be prepared for any eventuality. As it happened, we had to battle torrential rain and gale force winds, so the waterproofs definitely came in handy!
Location - A private ceremony at Lake Kleifarvatn, Iceland. We then explored around the Reykjanes Peninsula, visiting lava fields, waterfalls, black sand beaches and stunning sea cliffs.
Photographer - A huge thank you to Ann @icelandweddingplanner for organising and photographing our special day. We really couldn’t have done it without her, and would recommend Ann to anyone looking for a one of a kind, unforgettable wedding experience!
If you could give one piece of advice for future Y.A.P brides about to embark on their bridal journey, what would it be?
Do whatever makes you happy. Don’t feel pressured by anyone, be it parents/in-laws/other family and friends – it’s your day and you should celebrate it however you want.
All the best,
